Geo Photo Tagging with GCzII and GCzII-Tool
 
This document describes how easy it is to geo tag your photos on a pocketpc or smartphone with GCzII and GCzII-Tools. The result is a KMZ file which you can easily email or further use on your pc. The KMZ file contains all informations (photos an coordinates) an is for use in Google Earth:
 

 
What you need?
 

  • PocketPC or Smartphone with Windows Mobile

  • build in camera and GPS

  • GCzII

  • GCzII-Tools

  • PocketPC time must be synchronsized with the GPS Time

  • have the correct timezone on PocketPC

  • optional: Google Earth on Desktop PC
The correct GCzII-Tools Setup
 

  • you must have set the correct GCzII Folder
    normaly that is: \program files\gczii or \storage card\program files\gczii (differs in other languages)
    if you have change the GCzII Download Folder, in GCzII: Menu, Option, Download Settings, then you must set exactly this folder as the GCzII Folder

  • you must have set the correct camera folder

you can do that in GCzII-Tools: Menu, Settings,Set Camera Folder
this will take a test photo, you must store them! so that GCzII-Tools can find out the correct camera folder

Lets start!

  • run GCzII on your device

  • switch on the GPS logging:
    (Menu, GPS, Logging Start)

  • take your tour, keep the GCzII and gps logging running

  • on the tour: take picture

  • take more pictures

  • finish your tour and switch off GPS Logging
    (Menu, GPS, Logging Stop)

  • open GCzII-Tools:

  • got to: "Geo Tagging Photos"

if you want to see the positions of your geo photos in Google Maps on your device, please select:

View Geo Photos in Google Maps

if you want email the geo photos to a friend, your wife or yo mother (what else) then select:

E-Mail Geo Photos

if you want only create a KMZ File (KMZ File is the file for Google Earth on the PC), later you can transfer this file to your desktop pc an view them with Google Earth:

Only Geo Tag Photos

  • then select the track, recorded with GCzII (the photos must be taken into the timesppan of the selected track)

  • if all ok (the photos taken in the same time like the track on your settings are correct) then the result:
